Why Spoonful of Love?
When I first conceptualized this blog, there were several names that I toyed with, before zeroing in on’ Spoonful of Love’.
I don’t think I have come across anyone who said that he/she did not relish their mother’s cooking. The reason mum’s cooking surpasses the food served at the best restaurant in any city is because it has that one extra ingredient, the love with which she makes her meals. This in essence is the true ingredient for a perfectly delightful taste that lingers long after we have grown up.
Cooking for me is a way to communicate my love for my family, hence the name.

Tribute to Aayi
My love for food goes way back into my childhood, and a lot of credit for the same goes to my paternal grandmother (fondly called Aayi) who was ever willing to cook up dishes to suit everyone in the family. Even today I can visualize her sitting on the floor, with a kerosene stove in front of her rolling out heaps of chapatis to feed the entire household. It was fun to watch the huge lump of dough diminish as the bread basket was filled with hot chapatis...all even sized and equally browned. What was really charming was to see each chapati puff up like a ball, before she skillfully with her bare fingers moved it from the skillet to the bread basket. It is difficult to really indicate the number of chapatis she rolled out each day, but they would suffice for the breakfast, and lunch boxes for 12 people, with a few left for her own lunch.
Those were days, when there were no refrigerators, Aayi would each morning go to the market, bargain with the fish mongers and vegetable sellers and bring in her daily supply of fresh veggies, fish and meat. With such a large home to run, Aayi always found ways to suit the likes and food habits of us all. While I am a die hard fish fan, my grandfather would prefer the meat. She would then spend her morning, making fried fish, fish curry, mutton curry, dal, rice, vegetables, making sure there was something that each of us liked. The smile of satisfaction on her face, when we tucked into our meals was all the thanks she ever needed.
Needless to say, our home was often visited by family and friends, none of them ever went away without a meal. Aai took great pride in the fact that there was always enough to go around for that unexpected guest who walked into the house.

About Me
My name is Sharon Kundu, and Spoonful of Love is my attempt at blogging about Food - my ultimate love and passion, next only to my Family. While my extended family is huge, my little household comprises of my equal half Sumanta, my daughter Sara and my son Syon. Cooking for me is a fun affair, because not only does it de-stress me, but I love to see the smiles of delight in their eyes. My little one's demands constantly propel me to the kitchen to try new recipes, and to create something both healthy and inviting at the same time.
